How a bed renovation goes

  3. Rebuild the soil

    We work in compost, topsoil, and organic matter so new plants have healthy ground.

  4. Reshape and plant

    We reshape the beds for flow and set each plant at the right depth and spacing.

  5. Edge and mulch

    Clean edging and a fresh layer of mulch finish the beds, hold moisture, and slow weeds.

Landscape bed questions we hear

Full tear-out or just a refresh?
Both are options. If the bones are good we can refresh plants and mulch. If the soil is spent or the layout no longer works, a full tear-out and rebuild gives you a cleaner, longer-lasting result.
Rock or mulch?
Rock lasts and does not blow away, but it holds heat and is harder to change later. Mulch feeds the soil and looks softer but needs topping up every year or two. We help you pick per bed.
How do you keep grass out of the beds?
Clean edging is the answer. A cut edge, or boulder or stone edging, gives a defined border that slows grass and holds the shape of the bed.
When is the best time to replant beds in Iowa?
Spring and early fall are the easier windows, so plants can root before summer heat or winter cold. We time the work to give new plantings the best start.
Can you reuse any of my existing plants?
Yes. If a plant is healthy and fits the new design, we can move or replant it rather than tear it out.
